Product development systems for health technologies generally have a concept, feasibility, prototype, scale-up, production and post-market structure. Where in this pathway should issues relating to the health economic valuation of the technology be undertaken?
As this question relates to the overall commercial success of the product, and the return of the R&D investment, an early assessment of potential value must be important. However, the evidence for this in the early development stages is not always strong.
This discussion will consider how to reconcile these factors, to merge technology valuation considerations into the product development pathway.
