Discussion Group: Stem Cell Engineering

<< Back to Programme Listing

Stem cells are becoming increasingly associated with therapeutic interventions for tissues damaged through disease and/or injury.

These include various classes of stem cells including embryonic, fetal, and adult. In fact, adult-derived stem cells and stem cell products are currently in clinical trials and available as marketed products.

In spite of this growth a focus point is still required to define product feasibility, commercial worth, and efficacy. For instance while autologous stem cell therapy may be suitable in some instances for successful commercialisation does an allogeneic route represent the only realistic and viable option?
