Discussion Group: Innovation and Enterprise - The experiences of an academic in trying to develop a hand held electrical device for the management of self harm

<< Back to Programme Listing

Innovation and enterprise are the new ‘buzz’ words in the academic arena with many universities and educational establishments encouraging this type of activity. Each institution has its own procedures and processes for taking ideas from proof of concept to the market.

Many academic institutions have engaged external partners to take on specific roles such as IP management, clinical trial design, patent registration and business management. However, in some institutions such relationships to support their innovation and enterprise activities do not yet exist. Academics in the latter institutions face many challenges in tying to move their ideas forward.

During this workshop participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, thoughts and ideas on medical device development and network with people who are in similar situations.
