Discussion Group: Pushing forward on point-of-care diagnostics

<< Back to Programme Listing

Point-of-care diagnostics can deliver real benefits to patients and healthcare providers by allowing measurements to be made at the point where they are needed. They also offer reliable measurements, which are faster and can be made by non-specialist staff.

Examples of micro and nanofabrication technologies that are available to allow sophisticated chemical and biological measurements to be made on chip formats will be given.

In addition, examples of devices that are currently being developed, such as a device for measurement of d-Dimer marker in whole blood to aid DVT diagnosis, will also be given.

The discussion group will consider the potential challenges and opportunities for such devices within healthcare.
