Discussion Group: Patient involvement in health technology innovation

<< Back to Programme Listing

The concept of co-production emphasises the importance of the relationship between professionals and patients and the role that patient experience and knowledge has in contributing to innovation and improvement across the whole spectrum of health care.

The legacy of an NHS where patients were cast as passive recipients of care means that more needs to be done to make sure that patient expertise and knowledge is valued.

This discussion will include case studies of people who have arthritis that illuminates their experiences with technology. The stories are part of a wider initiative the Patient Voices programme that promotes the telling and the hearing of some of the unwritten and unspoken stories of ordinary people in ways that promote mutual and respectful collaborative working across the whole spectrum of health care, including health and innovation.
