Medipex

Medipex is the NHS Innovation Hub for Yorkshire and Humber and its aims are:

• To provide effective Intellectual Property management and commercial exploitation services to all NHS bodies in the region
• To work with partners to develop healthcare related innovations for improved patient care and wealth creation

Medipex prides itself on delivering a managed service to its members. Membership is open to all NHS organisations that are located in the Yorkshire and Humber Region. Annual membership fees are charged to the Trust, based on the size and anticipated level of activity. Membership of Medipex is not compulsory in order to receive services but for non-members Medipex may charge on a consultancy basis. On becoming a Medipex member any of the Trust's staff may contact Medipex and receive advice on protecting their idea. For ongoing projects they can receive up to £50,000 in Proof of Concept funds and the use of Medipex expert staff with business models, and commercial exploitation free of charge. Medipex's knowledgeable staff will provide them with excellent services and guidance to help make their idea a success.

Medipex have developed value added services that we are pleased to offer to members and to companies interested in working with our members:

• Commercial Exploitation
  o Identification, assessment and implementation of inventions/ideas using "Capture, Assess, Develop, Deal" (CADD Tool)
  o Confidential Expert Advice (e.g. legal, financial, commercial, tax), Project Management and Ongoing Support
• Funding and Prototyping
  o A key aspect of our ability to assess an idea is through Proof of Concept Fund available to NHS staff in order to further develop and refine their idea
• Research and Development Collaborations
  o Brokering collaborative links between NHS and others (e.g. industry and research groups)
  o Industry/NHS commercial collaborations
• Customised Services o Expertise on NHS owned spin out companies and commercial services
  o Market research reports
  o Support with clinical trials of medical technologies
  o Companies can receive expert advice and guidance (referral via Business Link)
